How to Tell If Your Delay Is Discernment or Disobedience
If you are a believer who genuinely wants to obey God, you know what it is like to wrestle with timing. You want to get it right. You do not want to move ahead of God. You do not want to force a book, manufacture a message, or step outside of His will just because you feel pressure to produce.
That desire to be careful is not the problem. Discernment is a real thing. There are times when God does say wait. There are times when He slows us down, redirects us, or keeps us in a place of preparation longer than we expected. But sometimes discernment becomes a label we put on a delay that God did not actually ask for.
This is why you have to tell the truth about your delay. If the instruction has already been given, the question is no longer whether God has spoken. The question is whether you are responding. There is a real difference between the peace of waiting and the discomfort of avoiding. If you are going to walk in obedience as a kingdom writer, you need to know the difference.
The State of Your Spirit
You want peace and that is a good thing. If you are trying to honor God with your writing assignment, of course you want to know that you are moving in step with Him and not ahead of Him. But peace and postponement are not the same thing.
When God truly asks you to wait, there is peace in that wait. You may not have every detail, but you are settled. You are not wrestling yourself to the ground just to stay still. When the delay is not from God, mental fatigue usually follows. You keep revisiting the same reasons, explaining the same pause, and searching for more clarity when what you really need is courage. That is how many kingdom writers end up stuck in the clarity trap, using more information to delay the obedience already in front of them.
The Evidence of Your Hands
You may be in a season where the next step does not feel clear yet. But real discernment does not leave you completely shut down. Waiting on God still has movement. You are still praying, listening, and staying available to the process as an Obedient Writer.
If you are unsure what kind of delay you are in, look at your life. Look at your calendar, your bank statement, and your browsing history. Did you make any move toward the book in the last thirty days? Did you outline, pray over the message, or take one step to understand Christian publishing? If there has been no movement at all, that is not discernment. That is avoidance.
Success does not cancel an assignment. You can be productive, respected, and outwardly fruitful while still neglecting the one thing God asked of you. That is what outsourcing obedience looks like. And anointing cannot be mimicked. It rests on obedience, not accomplishment.
Decide Today
