What It Means to Be an Obedient Writer
Many are called but few choose to answer the call. I believe you are here because you have received a nudge from God that you need to write a book. It may have come through a prophetic word or a desire in your heart. Whatever the method, the assignment is clear, God wants you to write a book.
Being an obedient writer has nothing to do with your writing skill and everything to do with your willingness to say yes. In this article, we will explore some of the reasons you have not stepped into being an obedient writer and how to correct them.
Reason 1: You think you have to be ready before you obey
Many are waiting to feel ready so they can obey, but that is not how it works. Readiness is not the prerequisite to writing your book. Obedience is. In the kingdom, clarity often comes after you move.
The correction is simple. Start writing before you feel ready. Don't get caught in the cycle of calling fear wisdom and delay discernment. If God said write, then begin.
Reason 2: You are treating the book like a personal project
A lot of writers stay stuck because they see the book as a goal, something to accomplish, something to add to their name. But that's not it. For those of us who are sold out to Jesus, our books are assignments. They are ministries that God wants to use to restore and equip the members of the body of Christ. The bigger picture here is that your delay in writing your book affects more than just you.
If you are to become an obedient writer, you need to change your perspective. Focus less on how this book will affect your life and start asking who God wants to reach through your obedience. When you understand that this is about people, not just pages, you stop treating it like a side project.
Reason 3: You are trying to complete a spiritual assignment in your own strength
We already established that this book is a God assignment, which means it needs God-tools to complete. If you continue to reach for more strategies, masterclasses, and courses, you will continue to feel frustrated. It's not that they are not effective. However, you are missing the main piece of the puzzle, the Holy Spirit, your chief writing aid.
He is the one who gives the assignment, so He is the best one to guide you through how He wants it to be written. That is why you need to surrender the call to write back to Him, sit at His feet, and allow Him to inspire the words that His children need to hear.
The good news is that you don't have to do this alone
Obedience is always easier when you have community. The Bible tells us that two are better than one because if one falls, the other is there to pick him up. It is with this in mind that I created a community for writers who choose to obey the call and write their books.
